Program Line for Secondary-School Students

The Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg has supplemented its range of scholarships with the “Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for Secondary-School Students”. The aim of the project is to foster the relations of Baden-Württemberg in Europe, and in particular in Eastern Europe, through the exchange of secondary-school students.

With the “Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for Secondary-School Students”, the Landesstiftung annually supports up to 25 secondary-school students aged from 16 to 18 with an international scholarship: the scholarship makes it possible to spend a school year expanding your horizons, making new friendships abroad and learning a new foreign language.

As with the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students, the project is based on the principle of exchange. Next year, the same number of secondary-school students will come from the partner countries to spend an academic year in Baden-Württemberg.

The program partner of the “Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for Secondary-School Students” is the charitable exchange organisation for secondary-school students, AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V., which has been organising international student exchanges and voluntary services for over 60 years, has many years’ experience of secondary-school student exchanges in Eastern Europe and runs offices and voluntary organisations in the countries involved in the scholarship program.

Secondary-school students from Baden-Württemberg can currently travel to 10 countries with the “Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for Secondary-School Students”:

  • Finland
  • France
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Slovakia
  • Spain
  • Czech Republic
  • Hungary

The young people live with host families, who are carefully selected by the program partner. Regular school attendance in the host country is compulsory. The secondary-school students are prepared well for their year abroad and are supported locally in the host country by AFS.
