General information on the annual meeting 2006

The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM opens up new perspectives For the last six years, the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg has been supporting the international exchange of young people through the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM program. About 1,000 scholarship holders, alumni and guests of honour attended the annual meeting on July 14 at the University of Tübingen. The event was held under the motto “Gaining new perspectives”, and the scholarship holders proved their ability with high-quality and original performances.

“Nowadays, international experience is more important than ever,” said Herbert Moser, Managing Director of the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg. “Through their placement abroad, the scholarship holders gain totally new perspectives. They get to know new cultures and regard their home from a different point of view.
And it is not only they themselves, but also their surroundings, that benefit from the experience.” Through its Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM program, the Landesstiftung makes a contribution towards global understanding.

The Landesstiftung also provides twenty rooms at halls of residence to accommodate the foreign scholarship holders.
Deputising for the Minister President, State Secretary Dr. Dietrich Birk presented a symbolic plaque for the right of use of the hall rooms to Eberhard Schaich, Rector of the University of Tübingen, at the event; the rooms will be available from the winter semester. The Tübingen student union is a partner of the Landesstiftung in this project.

The various contributions by the scholarship holders made this annual meeting a real experience. The Ukrainian Sergei Goncharuk from the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences combined tradition and technology. In the best Bavarian tradition, he had his self-developed robot pour a glass of wheat beer. Simon Assmann from the Ludwigsburg Film Academy, who has already found his way to Hollywood and Cuba on foreign study placements, presented extracts from his documentary film “Mi revolucion” about the conflict of generations between two Cuban women. Stephanie Büschelberger from Karlsruhe, who has gathered foreign experience in California with the STIPENDIUM program, presented unusual architecture. With her designs for the reconstruction of the elephant house at Karlsruhe Zoo, she reached the final of the architecture competition organised by the zoo.

The scholarship holders also enriched the event with musical performances. Willem Fourie from South Africa, who has won numerous music competitions, gave a sample of his talent on the guitar at the event and was also a highlight at the subsequent summer festival at the University of Tübingen.
